Moan Moan Moan - Moan

Hey all!
It's not often I moan and complain about things, especially on line. Also it isn't often I post journals, but then Twitter has sort of taken over there. :-P

This is moan about people who moan, not so much moan a little, the people that complain about everything and seem to go out of their way to then find fault with everything and anything possible.

I often find these kind of people are fairly unhappy with their life, unhappy with things they do and where they live.

This post comes about as tomorrow I'll be travelling to the London to see the Olympics, it's something I've been looking forward to for a week or more.
This morning I came into work so very happy and excited about it, I told one colleague where I was going and was then subjected to two and a half hours moaning and complaining. It left me feeling like it was rather pointless to go.
How can they wonder why everything they have is so crap when they find fault with everything.

It's not even just that, it's also the fact that they bring everyone else who is near them down to their level too. Like with my experience this morning, after being so enthusiastic about it, I was left rather dis-heartened. I know there are some people out there who also do this kind of thing on purpose, in a "if I'm not happy then no one shall be happy" way, which is just wrong.

Anyway, since I'm now writing the second half of this post from home and not on my phone in the canteen, my whole rant-y mood has gone. Actually things got better again after my break, several other people who I work with said how they'd wished they were going, or hoped that I had a good time and some of the customers said they'd keep an eye out for me when they watch on TV. :) So this time the moaning did not win over all, I guess there is a happy end to the story after all. XD

This evening I guess I'll be getting all my stuff packed ready for tomorrow and then me and Smraedis will be getting the train down to London at some point. Will be seeing the women's athletics final on Saturday evening. ^_^ I'll try to get plenty of photo's and there will probably be some blah blah about it on my Twitter. :)

I'll be back on Monday, but won't have long to wait before going out again since it'll be the Manchester mini-meet on 11th of August.
Now, someone from work has gone and invited themselves to the meet after the event was put on Facebook by Hex. As much as I'm happy for the guy to go, he doesn't actually know anything about the fandom at all, or what to expect. All I think he wants is to hook up with a hot girl. Today he came up to me and asked why a bunch of random people had been asking what his character is, so I'm just a little concerned.
Anyway, will see what happens there. :p

See ya,

Confuzzled 2011 - A Blog Post

Hey all, I know it's been a year since I last posted a blog of any sort. Well recently I've had something to post about. I wouldn't make it so long but I've had a few friends request that I write up about what I got up to at ConFuzzled 2011 which happened this weekend just gone, 6th May - 9th May. Here goes the tale, I'll see what I can remember, it might not be accurate...

Before the con
Well, I should start before CF, Wednesday evening, I was putting my list together in Evernote so that the list could be taken with me on my phone and check off people who wanted to meet me. I did this because last year there were people who I didn't manage to see. My mood was pretty good, Thursday evening I was going to be traveling to Smraedis' flat and Wednesday was my last day of work before CF started.

The next day: Thursday, while sitting at my desk, clutching at my big massive cup of tea, I thought, I best get packed up and ready. But what to take? I quickly wrote up a to-do list using Google calendar and then proceeded to go through it, packing all my things together, remember that I would spend that night at Smraedis'.

Ah ha, the big day, the day we arrive at the grand ConFuzzled, with it's furry gates which so confuse everyone who doesn't have a clue who we are.
We had breakfast and found what buses we needed to catch in order to get there, one to the Trafford Centre, another to get to the hotel. Smraedis started to get his things together a bit more, but was unable to find his swimming gear, which sucked a little and despite searching his whole flat, neither of us could find them any where. That put him in a fairly bad mood. :s

Jumping ahead to when we got off the second bus, I'm trying not to bore you too much. XD It took about a 5 - 10 minute walk down the road to get to the hotel, thankfully we knew what it looked like from the front this time. It was found much easier than last time and without having to use Google maps on my phone. Though I did look at my phone on the way, seeing some of my friends all around the area, or in hotel. We both walked in to find masses of people all over the place and one massive queue running through the main bar area. Bags were quickly off and we went to investigate this queue. Is this the registration queue? We wondered to our selves, it was a little hard to tell at first since some people queuing appeared to have con badges on already. We found Meeko in the queue pretty quickly and shared jokes about how fast the queue was moving. It was about 3pm and registration was meant to have opened at 2pm, who knows how long it would take for people joining the back of the queue to actually register. We decided it would be much better to go to the bar and sit down with a nice cool drink (it was hot in there) and watch the queue go past. Further more, we sat in some chairs right next to the queue so we could silently taunt people in the queue with our drinks. :) Although, I don't think Smraedis had quite the same plan as me.
After Meeko finally caught up and passed us, we moved to some chairs further down so we could keep him company while his long travel went on. I got my watch ready to time just how long it'd take after he entered the registration room, to the time when he'd emerge. The final result was about 22 minutes if I remember rightly. Once the queue got short enough me and Smraedis decided we would queue, I got my T-shirt as I was Resident+, everyone likes T-shirts, right?

On emerging from the registration room I was told to go to the con ops room to sign up for a volunteer badge. I'd previously signed up to be one, I like to help with things the con staff are always so busy. I was never told about how the volunteer thing worked until later though, which made things a little difficult. After getting a volunteer badge, me and Smraedis went to seek out our room, which thankfully was much better than last year and got unpacked as much as we needed and headed back down. The next mission then started... try to find everyone you know and chat with them. :p

That mission went rather well, meeting quite a lot of people we knew, people also coming up to us and chatting. All the time I was waiting for a con op to come and collar me about volunteering, which is basically putting out chairs and such, but it never came to pass.

The opening ceremony
With all the chatting and a couple more drinks time quickly vanished and it was time to form yet another queue, this time one which it was a good idea to join early, not that we really achieved this. The queue was for the opening ceremony, we had to stand near the back of the room where there were a few chairs and I saw NorfolkFox sitting, so we sat with him and said hellos. Due to all the people, it was easier to stand when watching as we were all introduced to the convention and it was announced officially open! that's always a good thing, there was much cheering and clapping. :p
The main event for food that evening was the BBQ, which as the opening ceremony was going on, was being prepared outside and could be easily seen through the windows from where I stood. Everyone filtered out of the room and we went to look at the notice board to see about getting the ticket for the BBQ, but at £12 odd, it seemed a bit much and it was decided it would be better to find an alternative source of food.

More chatting with people took us around the main bar area and outside, until my phone went off showing that I had to show up for the volunteer induction. I left Smraedis and went back to the main stage which is where it is supposed to have been held. A few other volunteers appeared, this must be good, a sign that I'm in the right place... we waited and waited, I spotted that a hole in the dance floor was shaped strangely like the front half of an animal. What it was now escapes me. :p I also chatted some with people queuing for the BBQ, the queue for that ripped through the room, splitting it noisily in two.

A little while longer I actually learnt that all the volunteers had actually had there induction, it had been moved. Well that was a bit rubbish, hmm. Well, I disappeared to go and find Smraedis again, we went to get food after I signed out of volunteer thing, explaining that I'd missed the induction and I had had every intention of going back later, or the next day for more volunteering.

So Foods Were Nommed
You don't need the details of that, other than it was very enjoyable, yummeh, damn I made myself hungry now. XD

Wikifur Quiz
So after the foods, pretty much straight away it was time for the wikifur quiz, we accidentally missed it last year, but went to it the year before and it was good fun. We arrived at the room and things were still being put into place, it was like waiting for the next level in Portal 2, except people were moving the chairs and tables around. We were told to get back until the room was sorted out, then suddenly, and somewhat confusingly we were told we didn't have to queue and we could just come it. XD Yay for communication! Our team, team Us Lot was quickly formed, we got the maximum of 6 players and the name was suggested by Smraedis. Avon ended up defecting to another team in order to help even out numbers in the room and the quiz started. Shit got serious when we heard there would be a free round of drinks to the winners. The questions weren't easy either, making it a really challenge to get said drinks.

Sadly, once all the marking had happened and the top three teams were revealed, it turns out were weren't going to get anything of drinky poos, sad face time. :p We went to check our scores and found with did quite all right despite the questions being so hard, we weren't that far behind the top three.

There after the evening was taken up with chatting to more people, finding others we knew and drinking. It was really good fun. ^_^
Smraedis eventually wanted to go to bed about midnight and we retired, I was still buzzing from meeting everyone and couldn't sleep until the early hours of the morning. :o

We were awake again about 8 - 9am the next day for breakfast were we sat with two others, that led to a good chat. We also spotted Xell who was on a table across the way. He'd suddenly grown a beard in the year since we last saw him. :p
I think it was by this time that a lot of the events had already started, we had a quick scan through the timetable, the Dealers Den would soon be open and there was already quite a queue for it, made up mainly of sponsors who get early access. We usually go and have a look, but don't buy anything. :p There was the Pawpet show, always a must see! There was the Late Night Arcade too which Smraedis was keen to see, he'd brought two of his own games along to try them out, Tekken 6 which he loaded up and Dodonpachi Daifukkatsu, which wouldn't work with English consoles available. Since these events were much later on in the night we set about finding people to chat with and the drinking started after a short while. :p It was still really hot inside and there were complaints that the heating was on full blast, even though it was hot and humid outside. It made it rather unpleasant really, still there was outside were we went to speak with Xell and Laze was also outside.

Here comes what I find is a rather amusing bit. :p While talking to Laze I could certainly tell that it was going to rain and that it might be stormy too, I could just feel it, like some instinct. Laze was saying how you can't tell things like that, while I was adamant it was true. Eventually me Smraedis went to our room because the Formula 1 Qualifications were on TV, once we'd got the remote to work. :p After that had finished we went back downstairs, oh what is this? It's only pouring it down with rain, rumbles of thunder could be heard. Time to quickly find Laze! XD

Somewhere, we found a bird, he went by the name of Regdeh, new to conventions I think he said, we literally dragged him to the Pawpet show which was just about to start, we made him stand in the queue for it. The pawpets was of it's usually quality, quite amusing, though it did have a few problems with the sound quality which Tungro was later informed about, but only too late as the show was over.

Water on the Dancefloor
After the pawpets it was the Late night Arcade and the Saturday night dance. Except, there was was a problem in that the rain was getting into night club and no was allowed to go in. The Late Night Arcade was taking place in Friday's which is a bar just passed the night club, above the fursuit lounge. The minor leak was eventually corrected and we were allowed to pass. Chatting to SpiritRaptor later the next day revealed that the leak was caused by a crack in the roof caused by the powerful speakers which had been brought to CF again this year... at least that's what SR told me. :p During the Late Night Arcade I got to play some rock band, which is about the first time I've really played it properly, I've only ever played FoFiX (Frets on Fire) before. I couldn't get used to the difference in the sizes of the buttons between the controller and my upside down keyboard. But I still managed to not fail. I also proved how rubbish I was at playing story mode on Time Splitters 2 using Game cube controllers, I'm not that brilliant anyway. :p

Once the arcade was getting packed away, Smraedis went to bed, but I stopped up to chat with people, I ended up not getting to bed until 4:20am. I think it was during the early hours of Sunday morning that I found the table of dragons, it was very scary being just a little dino on there, but slydragon kept me safe. XD I was really shocked when Varka said that he remembered me from when he joined the fandom.

I awoke at 8am, rearing and ready to go, despite the late night before, Smraedis remained in bed, he wasn't feeling very well and was really, really hot. I went down for breakfast myself, I didn't really want to get breakfast by myself so went in search of someone. TR was in the main bar as Squire had gone to an art event of some sort, so he came with me and managed to eat one whole Sausage while we were seated near the back of the restaurant. This part is surrounded by mirrors and window boxes filled with shale and plastic bushes. We or rather I, nicknamed the place the Lady Garden, I don't know why, it was funny at the time. :p

On getting out of the restaurant, I lost TR, he went up ahead of me as I stopped to let some people through the door, trying to catch him up he suddenly went out of sight and promptly disappeared, I thought, he's not that fast at walking, he couldn't have gone that far ahead of me. Looking behind me I found that he'd visited the art show while. I think it is this point where Tungro appeared and something was said about the sound problems in the Pawpet show.

After this I mostly spent the day chatting and drinking, there were still people to meet and talk to, people to see again to see what they got up the night before and so on. This took up until about midday when I was about to go and wake Smraedis to see if he wanted any lunch, but he just appeared anyway. :p So we went to the pizza buffet together, where he ate lots and lots of pizza, then kept eating. But he had missed breakfast.

The Fursuit Parade
After this it was back to the bar for more chatting and drink until it was time for the fursuit parade, as the suiters passed by the main bar I spoke to the bar staff, Avon who was getting a drink mentioned to the bar staff about how much they can cost, anything up to 5 figure sums, I added that some of them have cooling systems, ice jackets and electronics within them, and sometimes use special materials which can only be sourced by getting imported from other countries. After watching the suits pass through, we moved outside to see them all walking away from the hotel.
While outside I was nearly killed by a glass falling out the window a few floors up, we think it must have been blown out by the wind.

Once the glass falling incident was all cleared up and the parade had finished, we went back inside to continue with the chatting we'd been doing before, I then noticed the time, dealers den would be closing soon! We quickly went down to the den to see what was available, at this late stage there were no queues and some of the items remaining were on offer to try and clear them. Me and Smraedis went around talking to the dealers and looking at some of the things they had.

When dinosaurs meet
At some point we got talking to SpiritRaptor, who I've spoken with a few times on IRC, I saw him at CF two years ago, but I never said hi as he seemed so busy. He said I should say hello, so I went up to him, he knew who I was straight away and started saying things like I enter rooms with my tail up, and so on. Which I don't, *looks behind him and tries to push his tail back down.* I don't! That was funny. :p

It was also on Sunday that me and Smraedis decided to go to the dance, last year I recorded a few clips on my phone which I uploaded on Youtube. This year I thought I'd do the same, when I updated my phone last year it got the ability to record in 720p high definition. I've used it before and tested it out in the room just to make sure it would work. I started recording and would it work, nope, it wouldn't, thankfully standard definition still did, so I took a couple of quick videos, I should have probably made them longer... oops. I didn't end up doing much dancing that night, not that I can really dance, I just go out there, jump around and kick my legs, trying to copy a few others, generally not caring what I look like before getting off the floor for more drink and chat. I did chat a lot too, again I didn't get back to the room until about 4:30 in the morning, I saw that the doors to Friday's was still open. Friday's was of course where the Late Night Arcade was being held, I went in to see Chrome was still in there, but packing things away, I don't know how that guy could stand up. The Sun was also coming up and the morning chorus was well under way, so I thought it was about time I went to bed, everything else by this time was starting to finish now.

I woke up somewhat sad Monday, knowing that this was the day when everyone would be saying goodbyes, but it had been a good weekend. I had already pretty much packed everything up before breakfast, so after breakfast Smraedis carried on his packing while I went and spoke some more with people I found around the main bar. After getting all the bags in the drop off area, me and Smraedis checked out and kept saying good byes, and hello to Natu. Before eventually we decided it was time to leave.

As soon as we got back to Smraedis' flat, we both more or less sat on the sofa and fell asleep. :p
It was such a great weekend, bring on next year. :D

Hey guys and gals, I thought I'd have a go at writing a blog post since I've not done it since the end of July. Which was a blog saying about stuff and my Grandma's funeral. Probably not the best post to leave up, hmm?

So what has this dino been up to? Lots and not lots, but lots indeed. :p
I like to make sense like that. I've done a lot in terms of some of my codings and what I've been up to recently, I've not done a lot in terms of interesting job wise, since I still have my job at ASDA and it's been very very busy over Christmas, luckily the workload is dropping back off now so I feel like I have some of my life coming back and also time for other jobs I need to do.

So, looking through my twitter (SDF_of_BC) I can view all the rubbish I've been up to. One of the first things I posted since my last blog is that I upgraded the RAM in my laptop, bringing it up from one gig to four, it does run a lot smoother now, another thing that happened in September is that the three year anti-virus subscription I got from Dell expired, I couldn't wait to get McAfee off the thing. I just think them 'all in one' pieces of software are annoying and bloated, my laptop had a new lease of life after uninstalling that and installing AVG and a separate firewall. The two of them work much better. :)
Sadly my laptop is currently out of action, so I've not been able to get on-line as often as I used too, the power supply started making strange noises and stopped working. My Dad ordered a new one just before Christmas and it's still not arrived, Dad's written to Amazon and they're in talks about what to do. :p
In any case I can't wait get my laptop back and get fully back onto the Internet. Still it's been fun using my Linux desktop computer more.

Talking about my Linux desktop, I got an old GFX card off my Dad to use in it since the one it came with had some driver issues that ATi were trying to fix, but I got bored of waiting. My Dad gave me an old nVidia card and it worked fine until about a month ago when the fan on it started to make a huge racket. Yesterday before I started some of my coding work I swapped that card for a newer one that was in one of the desktops downstairs, so my desktop now has a GeForce 7300 GT in it, it's much happier now. Next I'll have to try and find some free RAM as the desktop only came with 512MB stick. Even with the low memory it still manages to do more than windows and keep it's speed. XD

Hopefully I'll soon have my laptop back anyway, so I'll not have to worry about memory things. :p

Anywho back to my twitter for the next subject... ConFuzzled, I'm so there. XD Been paid up now for about 6 months and have a room with Smraedis, it sounds like many of my friends will be going to this con too, more than previously. I've also made new friends who are going. ^_^

Continuing in the whole con and meet thing I went to the last November Manchester main meet, I booked a day off work so I could sleep over in Manchester and stay as late as I wanted. :) I was a disappointed that Duragan couldn't go, but he had to fix a shed roof. I think I've expressed how disappointed I was already, so I'll not go into this much further. It was a good meet, the weather was the main let down I think, it was so cold that me and Smraedis decided to leave early, but then we saw Stuart and we stayed an extra hour, but still when we left it was early. I also got to meet Jeet, who I've been chatting with quite a lot on-line, he was terribly shy and didn't move from out the corner much, heh. The main difference I found at this time was that even more people greeted me, and I was greeted with a fair few hugs and one nomming, a little more than just the usual hellos. :p

Lets hope the next Manchester meet is just as good and that the weather is warm and Sunny like it has been the previous few years. I still have to book the time off work for the Sunday after that, the recovery day. :p

So talking of holidays, this year I should be going on a cruise around the Mediterranean, since it's cheaper to go two by two I'm taking Smraedis along with me, I just hope he can afford it. It should be a real good time anyways, the last cruise I went on was too awesome for words.

Continuing talking about holidays, I have a bit of a problem with holiday hours at work, I'm supposed to use them all up by the end of March I think it is. However, last year I had no need to use much of my holiday, so I ended up taking one day off. Now this means I likely have over 100 hours of holiday to get rid of, I won't know until my next pay slip. Luckily I have managed to get two weeks off for my B-day, two weeks of holiday comes to 48 hours off, so I've managed to get rid of half the hours anyway, still there's a lot to get rid of and I don't think I'll be able to... oops. XD This year I shall have to spread my holiday out a lot more. :) Also use it to visit friends and get other tasks done.

*Phew,* I feel like I've typed a lot, but there is still more! I'll just leave out some things. :p

Onto coding projects then? Well, I've been working a little more on SDF:IRC, did quite some work on the plug-in framework and a little bit on UI and made lots of optimisations; mIRC colours and formatting work, links to URLs and #channels work, also I wrote some API so that it can be expanded using plug-ins.
Now when a message comes into the client it is handed to a message handler, this plug-in takes actions on the message and then sends it to a console if need be and the CTCP handler too. The console will find a text provider which obviously composes the text to be printed to the console, after that the console passes the text and message around the formatting plug-ins which decode mIRC formatting, ANSI etc. then it's passed around the link plug-ins which create click-able area of text on the console such as web links and channel links. It's still really fast even doing all that. :p

Also been working on that iPhone app a lot and also I'm trying out writing a facebook app. In fact the facebook app is nearly ready, but I need to work on other things so it's on the back burner for the moment. Facebook is quite easy to code with so it's only taken a week or two to get a near working app, also I already know HTML, PHP, SQL and JS. I just had to learn FBML which isn't hard it's almost like XHTML.

I also hope everyone had a good Christmas and New Year's, for Christmas I got clothes and also the new red dwarf box set, plus the Back to Earth one they did for Dave. :) It's been a good Christmas this one just passed. :)

Hopefully once I have my laptop back I'll be more active again, it's one of my intentions. I've also been thinking about doing a little drawing again, for now, I need to go and have a shower.

SDF signing off.

See ya Grandma and Update

Hey all, new blog entry time, I feel. :p

Phew man, it's been some trying times recently. My Grandma has passed away, most of my friends know that already, we had the funeral on Tuesday, 28th; well as you could imagine there were plenty of tears, my granddad can hardly cope and the vicar did a very good job. Also, I noticed the Lord's prayer used there is the one I know off by heart, a lot of other places I've had to say it, including in my little bible I got from school, it has a different version. I prefer the one I know, the words just flow off your tongue easier than some of the others.

Anyway, the mood was lifted a bit when we got to the crematorium, my Grandma's music of choice was Smoke on the Water by Deep Purple, it really put a smile on our faces, just what Grandma wanted.

Moving on from that, I've now worked for twelve weeks at ASDA, I feel I'm starting to fit in now, I was really hyper last week for some reason, I have no idea what caused it. XD In my other work, I've been trying to understand this other guys code, it is rather cryptic, with no comments and all the variable names near enough just three characters long which barely have any meaning. Yesterday on the drive back from Leicester I had a good look over the code again and I feel I'm starting to understand what it's going on about. :p

One of my personal project, the WhatPulse Banners and Signature Images site, has been going well too. I've been working on this because I've still got people trying to use it even though I've put in bold letters that it's not ready to be used on the front page, it is about the most popular part of my web site now.
I've got the background image uploads working and soon I shall be getting the banner creation, editing and deleting all working. Currently only blank banners are created because I need to write the JavaScript to add new stats to the banners. Of the JS I have written, you can delete stats from your banner, that was the easiest thing to code. XD
I will also need to provide a preview which can be updated maybe using JS again.

Just this morning I had someone just register on there, upload a background and try to create a banner, despite the big red box saying the page isn't functional, and is under construction.

Oh well, what can you do. XD

Ah yes and one last thing before I finish, I'm setting up a OpenSim Simulator on my server, which is going to be attached to a grid called Aries, this is going to be a grid for use by members of the United Space Force, all going well it should be running soon. I was surprised when the grid admin said about using precompiled versions for windows to make things easier. I don't know about on windows, but it's really easy to compile on Linux. Just svn update && make that's it.

Well, that's about it for this update, I just need to keep working on, with both jobs and my projects.

I'll see ya,

Much Needed Update

Yay, an update from me. This may be long I haven't updated since the end of January.
I've been getting complaints for not updating.

Well, to tie off things I was talking about in my last blog entry I had a great time on my B-day (that was 31st of Jan) we all played games on my Dad's Wii and had drinks and a meal at a local Indian restaurant, it was great!

After my inter-semester break I started doing my very last module for uni, Client-Server Solutions. It's been a good fun little module, there's only me and a guy named Tom who turn up and we already know so much about the history of computers and have a good understanding that the tutor has been able to go about twice as fast and we've finished a early.

Onto jobs, I'm sure if you've kept track of my facebook or twitter accounts then you will know that I now work for ASDA (A UK super market owned by WalMart,) as a home shopper. It involves walking around the shelves and picking up peoples' on-line shopping. But you have to work fast in order to get the deliveries out on time. It's actually not such a bad job once you get used to it, the pay is better than my previous job and the atmosphere is better.
I submitted my application at the beginning of March and was trying to sort it out through February with the view of getting a job for the Semester to help may my uni fees as I was getting a little low on cash. It didn't quite work out like that though, it took ages for ASDA to get back to me after the interviews and so I didn't have my induction day, or best welcome, until a few weeks ago and then started work, sort of near the end of the semester. Luckily with only having one module, my uni fees were far cheaper than I expected and I had enough money to cover it, despite having no job for about two years.

Surprisingly jobs are like buses, you wait ages and two can come along at once... after I'd submitted my ASDA application I got an email from a tutor about someone seeking a developer for a small project, well I jumped at the chance and hopefully I've not hit my head on anything.
I went for a small interview in the uni's cafe to get the brief on what I needed to do, porting a flash game over to the iPhone. Unfortunately I've not been having much luck here since every time I try to do something Apple have been a pain in the backside, after this I'll probably not want to do any developing on an Apple platform again. Unless it's to get a Java application working.

That's been pretty much it for the last few months, you know how life settles into a routine.

More recently, as in this weekend just gone I went to ConFuzzled, yeah it's a furry convention. Anyway I had a great time!
Me and Smraedis got access only tickets because he told me that he lived around the corner from the venue, it was only later that he told me he in fact lived an hour's walk from it. Not good to be walking through the middle of Salford from Manchester to Eccles at 1am. In fact on the opening night we were attacked by four or five "hoodies," for no reason what so ever. Luckily we managed to get away and had no further problems, though it was a bit scary walking back to his flat after that, walking in silence for an hour with your mind buzzing isn't so fun. I was determined not to let it spoil my time though. :)
We went to a few events, which were loads of fun, I ended up drinking and then singing and dancing a bit in the foyer of the venue nearly every night, I also made some new friends and saw a few people there that I only spoke to on IM. There were also quite a few people there I already knew. I was really worn out after the four day event and can't wait to see what photos, and maybe videos, I will be in. :p

The weather couldn't have been much better either, I got sun burnt it was so sunny and hot, I remember it was like this last year too around this time.

This Saturday I will be out again in Manchester, this time going to the usual meet up, should be good fun again though I may still be worn out. :p

This Friday I have an exam, as you can see I'm revising and not taking time to update a blog. This is a bit of a special exam though, "why is that?" Well because it's the last one of uni and once it's over and done with I will no longer be at uni, on the 10th of July I will be getting presented with my degree and then everyone will have to call me S.I.R Sulley BSc. :p

After I get my degree, well, I'll finish off doing them ports and keep working at ASDA, save up my money for various future events and then start looking for some real work.

So there you are, if you've read this far you've done well and should be up to date with my life. I do try to read what other people get up to if I can, even when I don't comment, I do get busy though.

Thanks for reading,
see ya,

Long Awaited Update

Hey all!
Wow feels like ages since I've last written a journal and it has been too. :p

Well, the thing which caused it would be university, this semester has been so busy I've had practically no free time what so ever, been nearly at breaking point. I think the main reason for getting so behind with things was my Software Engineering module, there was too much work to be done on it and it took all my time up.
Last week I had my exams, after a little revision I think the Software Engineering went quite well, the other exam I had was Advanced Database Systems, I think that went quite well too. However, I wasn't quite fluent when it came to answering the questions and I had to dig around in my memory a little to find the answers. Usually when I'm on an exam, whether I've revised or not the answers come as I read the question.
So now all I can do is wait for my results.
I had my project demonstration and Viva today, it went sort of OK, better than nothing anyway. :p The bus didn't turn up so I was about half an hour late, luckily the tutors waited for me and the room was still free. :) I had trouble accessing my uni home area last night to upload my work. Luckily the presentation uploaded fine. However, when it came to showing my application off the workspace hadn't been stored. But no worries, I took my laptop and was able to show the program on there. :)
So now I'll have to wait for a result there too.

With that behind I'm now on a little holiday between semesters and I'm not back until the 9th of Feb. Next semester should be much easier, I only have one module so I'll be in for a three hour lecture once every week. I'm hoping to get a part-time job with Duragan to fill up the time and help get some of my finances going again. Also I need the work experience, I've only been in a manufacturing environment with a little work in a shop. So it will be much more useful especially in the current financial climate to get the experience since there are more shops around and the manufacturing industry is dieing in this country and has been since the conservatives messed everything up. XD

It's my B-day on Saturday, having a meal and a little bit of a party with duragan, Carl from over the road and Smraedis. :)

I've managed to pick up on coding SDF:IRC again and I've got it close to the next release now. :) I've still got a few things one of which is quite important to iron out, but there should be a new release in the next few weeks if all goes to plan.
I'd say the best new feature in the client is the capability to add plug-ins for formatting and styling in the consoles and I've written an mIRC formatting plug-in, it's working well though there is a bit of a random bug in it somewhere. The good thing about these plug-ins is that is you don't want mIRC colours and formatting them you just need to remove the plug-in from the plug-in folder, or uncheck it in the installer.
I've made a lot of tweaks to the UI as well, trying to sort out the colours and positioning. Also, I've moved the made part of the GUI framework to a new project called Smraedis, Smraedis will be and is a GUI framework which I can use to create UI without having to worry about stuff in SWT too much.

Onto, Second Life, I've only got one plot of land for rent left now, if anyone's interested, first come first serve. :p
Also working on a new house, new for 2009, it's currently floating above the old one and when I get around to it, it'll replace the old one.

Also since it has been a while since I was around, I did have a very good Christmas and a good new year, though most of it I was doing uni work it was still good. Hope you all had good ones too. ^_^

Oh, almost forgot, I have gotten Project Martha underway, for the peeps who are new to reading this or have forgotten, which is likely, :p Martha is the project name for an artist orientated to-do list, mainly for people who have many requests and commissions to work through. I'm currently developing for Duragan but if anyone has input on it I'm happy to listen since I will be releasing it eventually. I've not got far with it because of uni. However, here is the project page.

Thanks and see ya all,

PS. I have a facebook and twitter account now. :p

mini update and funky UI video

Hey all, thought I'd do a little post, I'm doing alright, really busy with my uni work, but getting behind with it all. :s I'll live and I'm looking forward tomorrow, Manchester main meet tomorrow!

Also, this new computer interface looks really cool, but typing would take a long time and you probably couldn't fit the screens in your house, though it would make a good TV. :p

Larger update than the last one

Hey all,

I thought it time to make another update, it's been about two weeks since my last one. XD
Quite a bit has happened and not happened at the same time, woo zen. :p

Mum and Dad went away on holiday with my Dad's friend and his wife last week, it would have been good, but my brother is here too and while he's OK really, when he's with his friends he just turns into the most rude, ignorant person ever, and it probably isn't helped by the huge amount of booze they knock back, still we only had one argument so it's a definite improvement. Because the house was going be largely empty and Smraedis was going to be coming around that's when I organised a little get together for all my closest friends; Smraedis was there of course, Carl from over the road came along too and we had a pretty good time. Sadly Duragan couldn't attend as he was ill, he'd have really made the the party a party if he'd have come and it'd lasted longer, but what can you do when you're ill.
No worries there's plenty more time and he should be coming around tomorrow too. :)
Mum and Dad have now gone again, this time to visit my sister in Scotland, I couldn't go this time as my brother is off on holiday with his friends to the island of Cos and I have to stay and look after the cats for the weekend.
I might also get to see Smraedis again on Monday, but we're not sure about that yet, since my brother will be away I have full use of the car without having to worry whether he has to use it.

Zooming ahead to next year, I'm all registered and paid up to go to a convention, it's a few years since I last went to a con, them being Blitzcons. However, this will be the first furcon I've ever been to, I've looked at some videos of last year and it looks awesome, so it should be really great fun, and it's held down the road in Manchester too. :p The con is called ConFuzzled BTW, as I've just noticed I've not said the name yet. XD

Onto projects, during the free time I've had to get a lot of coding in as I feel like I'm getting behind with it all, I've been coding away at my uni project the core of it is all done, I decided not to use Swing for the GUI and have instead converted it all to use SWT like SDF:IRC does. :p

As for SDF:IRC, I've made some progress on this too, I've made it so that rather than just setting a server to use SSL or not, you can now tell the client to use SSL on only select ports by prefixing a '+' onto a port number, this is supported in all areas of the client now, so the port list could be like this +6697,6667,7000 where port 6697 uses SSL encryption and the others are just normal IRC connections. Because of this change the settings need to be updated again, this time there is a difference though. If you remember in the 0.0.2a release I'd made the settings more extensible, well now when you start the next release of the client for the first time it will auto-update the server settings for you.
Another thing I've done, I've created a plug-in for my client which does two things: first, it allows the user to add, remove and list client-side ignores, so you can ignore annoying people; secondly, it also has an anti-flood feature in it so the client should auto-ignore anyone flooding you, the defaults still need a good tweaking though, so if you have a setting that you find best, just say and I'll test it out. :p
SDF:IRC should now crash less, not that it did much before anyway, I've fixed a number crash bugs and a large number of possible crash bugs that never saw the light of day. On top of all that, I've removed a load of debugging and refined the messaging system within the client so that it's much faster and more memory efficient now. I monitored the memory usage over 24 hours and at the lowest it was using 2 megs of heap space, this rose to 6 megs as the 25 or so chat consoles filled up (but what amount of memory do other clients use?)

I've redesigned my web site again, I like this template so I think I shall keep this one for a while, I might remove the curvy images on the right, they didn't really export quite right from my GFX package.

Speaking of websites, time for a little grumble at DA, I'm finding the new site difficult to use, I usually view art from my desktop because the screen feels better on my eyes. The problem is, my wireless card tends to overheat and/or the drivers conk out if I download too much at once, it's never usually that bad, except on DA. Hmm, one of my extensions counts DA as having 106 dependencies. Further more, though I like some of the new things in the message center, give me back my check boxes, I want to be able to select more than one thing as a time. That's enough talking about that, it's not like ranting about it in a journal will make any difference anyway. If get really really annoying I may submit some sort of feature request, maybe. :p

Also after about a year out, I may be going back over to FA again,I've started feeling more comfortable looking around recently, since you know who last year.

As usual, I've managed to create a massive journal, well happy reading it, I'll see ya around then. :p

(no subject)

I suppose I should spread this around, if you make web sites, either as a job or hobby or whatever, do it! :p
